Rimini's lifeguards strike: "We explain why tourist safety is at risk."

Rimini, August 5, 2025 – The lifeguards ' protest. The lifeguards are ready to strike (with a huge demonstration to follow) to demand fair working conditions to ensure the safety of tourists and bathing.

The lifeguards of the province of Rimini will therefore be on strike next Saturday, August 9th. Citizens, tourists, and associations are invited to a protest march starting at 12:30 pm, from beach clubs 36-37 and arriving in Piazzale Boscovich .

Meanwhile, the campaign of assemblies continues regarding the dispute over bathing safety on the Romagna coast, which has been ongoing for two years "in the deafening silence of politicians and public administrators ," reports Filcams-CGIL. Saturday's provincial strike involves the entire work shift and all beach resort lifeguards . The lifeguard services, the union explains, are provided by seasonal workers, employees of cooperatives, consortia, or beach resort businesses, employed under tourism sector contracts.

These are "highly qualified" workers who ensure bathing safety, often in difficult conditions and with insufficient resources. For two years, Filcams-CGIL continues, to give "the appearance of greater safety," the break in service during the middle of the day has been eliminated, but only half the staff is guaranteed. Each lifeguard thus finds himself having to supervise twice the body of water , 300 meters instead of 150, with "obvious risks" to the safety of swimmers and rescuers. The union is "in favor" of extending lifeguard services, but only on the condition that this is done "seriously, without burdening workers or jeopardizing the safety of tourists."

Hence Saturday's strike to demand conditions that "truly guarantee" bathing safety and to "say no to economic speculation on public property."
